The Audient range of audio interfaces have proving popular options for years with a focus on both great sound quality and keen pricing, often proving to be very well-rounded offerings. With the ID48 they aim to fulfill a popular request and bring you a solution that offers a larger selection of connectivity, more ideal for recording large group sessions.

With a total of 8 switchable inserts featuring mic preamps built around 32-bit ESS converter technology and achieving 126.5dB of dynamic range, it’ll help you capture the nuances of each performance with stunning detail with the same fully analogue and discrete mic preamp circuit design found in the renown ASP8024-HE recording console. Also included are 2 sets of ADAT inputs & output taking it to a potential maximum I/O arrangement of 24in and 32out across all connectors.

Helping to make the integration of outboard kit more seamless is the inclusion of switchable insert routing. Utilising D-sub connections the ID48 provides 8 balanced inserts, allowing you to integrate your outboard FX prior to conversion and helping you to achieve the cleanest signal path possible. With switchable inserts it enables you to select which source is feeding the ADC path, allowing you to choose whether to send the Audient mic preamp or DAW outputs to your outboard on a channel by channel basis, all done without needing to plug or unplug any cables. This allows you to easily track and mix with external hardware effects or hook up external analogue mic preamps for a direct conversion path when recording. Also included are a pair of harmonically rich JFET instrument inputs designed to give you the perfect sonic foundation for your guitars and basses before you hit you favorite amp sims.

Monitoring is supported by a pair of outputs, allowing you to connect up both your main and alternate sets of speakers at the same time. Alternatively the two headphone outputs provide 124dB of dynamic range and enough power to to headphones up to demanding 600Ohm models. With configurable function buttons you can assign any of the monitoring options such as speaker select, dim and mono sum to the two dedicated hardware buttons and it also allows you to use a USB microphone or your computers built in mic as a dedicated talk back solution.

The iD software mixer offers all the normal control functionality we’ve come to expect, with the ability to setup low latency direct monitoring with up to four stereo cue mixes and the ability quickly setup advanced routing layouts and save your prefered presets or quick recall.
With a fanless design and detachable rack ears, it should be at home wherever you have space and with highly competitive price point to match could this be your perfect group recording solution?
